Ask for ANI (Action Needed Immediately) is a codeword scheme for victims of domestic abuse. It provides a discreet way to signal the need for emergency help from within the safety of their local pharmacy.

When a member of staff is ‘asked for ANI’ they will accompany the individual to the consultation room. Once safe, they will check whether they would like help in contacting a helpline or specialist support service or if they would like the police to be called. If so, the staff member will offer the use of a phone or make the call on the person’s behalf.

Participating pharmacies, including all Boots stores will display posters in their window and around the pharmacy to let customers know that they can approach their staff to seek help. Any information shared will be treated confidentially.
