THRIVE – Supporting Families

Norfolk Family Carers has been supporting young carers in Norfolk for more than 20 years. Our experience has shown us that the family/home situation is intrinsically linked to a young carers’ wellbeing, mental health and self-esteem. Our Thrive project uses an holistic approach to support the whole family for the benefit of the young carer.

An initial home visit provides the opportunity to get an in-depth understanding of the home situation. This helps us to assess the level/type of care being provided by the young carer and the impact and long term implications this may have. We also explore what is working well within the family and listen to any concerns they may have which could include:

  • Money matters
  • Benefits advice
  • Legal matters
  • What to do in an emergency
  • Safety in the home
  • Navigating health and social care services
  • Your mental health and wellbeing as a carer

We will develop an agreed action plan with the family to help resolve any issues found.

We can also provide support with:

  • Child Protection, Child in Need and EHAP meetings
  • Advocacy/Supporting Letters
  • Assistive technologies/help with equipment
  • Access to the community
  • Bursaries for school uniform/educational needs
  • Grant applications
  • Food Bank Vouchers
